In 2000-2001, water use in the household sector was 2.2 million mega litres (ML), a stunning 8.8% of total water consumed in Australia (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2005.) That’s a lot of water and it’s our best drinking water too. Can you imagine buying bottled water and pouring it on your garden at $2 or $3 dollars per 600ml? Most Australian bottled water is just tap water. With every major city in the country desalinating water we will be paying that much for our tap water soon enough. Average household water consumption is shown in the chart to the left.
Critically, domestic water consumption in households accounts for over 50% of total water use in our capital cities. There are many ways households can reduce their water consumption. We will show you how to utilise water sustainably in each area of your home and garden. Call Waterwise Systems® to book a water audit for your home on 03 9419 3777.
