In 2004, Melbourne Water stated that gardens consumed 35% of all the water supplied to our homes was used in our gardens, a stunning total of 406,800,000 litres every day, a total of 148,482,000,000 litres (or 148.5GL) per year!

This is nearly as much water as all businesses in Melbourne used!

Today, despite strict water restrictions, the Victorian Government estimates Melbournians still use 20% of total water use outdoors.
